Surgeon Explains Popularity of Breast Augmentation on West Coast

Dr. Daryl K. Hoffman, a board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in breast augmentation for San Jose and the Silicon Valley, recently offered his insights on the latest statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). The ASPS report tracks trends in procedures ranging from body contouring to breast enhancement to facial sculpting, as well as non-surgical cosmetic treatments.
“What’s intriguing about this latest study is that 38 percent of breast augmentations are performed on the West Coast. This is an extremely high percentage,” Dr. Hoffman says. “When I ask women why they get breast implants in the San Jose area, their answers reflect the fact that our West Coast culture is so accepting of the desire to change the body through plastic surgery. The ASPS statistics support this.
“Breast augmentation is always among the most popular types of surgery in these reports, and increasingly – although obviously particularly on the West Coast – women feel less inhibited about making the choice to undergo breast enhancement.”
This acceptance of plastic surgery also stems from the honesty and openness of many Hollywood celebrities about their procedures, Dr. Hoffman says.
“Almost every entertainment magazine contains a feature about a female actress or singer who has chosen breast enhancement to improve her appearance,” he says. “In fact, many of my female patients describe their favorite celebrities when they list their reasons for having breast enlargement in the San Jose area.”
